Christmas tree, visitors and Tanner

Grandpa John and Grammie came to see us last weekend. We had a great time and they even helped put the lights on the tree. Thanks!

Snow

It snowed today! The kids were in heaven.

Happy Halloween

Here are the kids all dressed up.  Pretty cute!  Eric was moving Alex into his bed tonight and he was saying trick or treat over and over, in his sleep.  Which is funny because we didn't even go trick or treating, since there was a big carnival for the kids at the school.  Maybe he was murmuring out of disappointment.

Pumpkin Fun

We may be amature pumpkin carvers, but we have a lot of fun.

Morgan's Pumpkin

Alex's pumpkin.  He drew this on paper.  Notice the letter "A" eyes.  It did have two teeth, but one fell out last night.

Tara's peace sign

Here are the happy carvers

Having Fun with Dad

Eric has this week off work and we've been having fun having him home.

Before/After Nighstands

At this point I was really scared to paint it the bright blue color, but Eric told me to just go for it, starting with the top.  I was still unsure once I painted the top, but continued on.  I think they turned out well.  I can't wait to find the right bedding and have the bed frame finished.  I think it will all come together nicely.

I love my family!

There was a skiff of snow on the ground and Morgan thought it was time to ski...it was pretty cute.  He was going all around the front yard.

Tara, Morgan and Eric have been going to  Bagpipe Group on Saturday mornings.  This little instrument is called a Chanter.  They use it to practice for the bagpipes.  I love the puffy cheeks.

Progress

I redid the finish on these, so the aren't so green and not as distressed looking. Before I liked it, now I love it.

We also finished the finish on the frame and the woodwork is done for the headboard. Now time to sand, prime, sand, paint, sand, glaze, sand, polyurethane...fun stuff

Alex and Tanner

Alex loves this little plastic fish.  He got it from preschool when they were working on the letter "F" a few weeks ago.  He takes it everywhere with him.  We often find it in his shoe.  Pretty cute.

"Mom, I know the bubbles look cute on my face, but really?"

Such a cute little stinker.

Project progress

So I found these night stands for $5 at a garage sale a few weeks ago....

And since we had this (really in need of help, $40 goodwill dresser)
I thought we should build this and redo the whole room.  Eric was totally excited.  So we went for it. Or I should say...we are going for it.
Here are the piles of wood. And the lovely saw borrowed from my friend Nancy!  Thanks!

Eric chamfering the edges to the middle pieces of the headboard.
Here is the frame of the bed. Almost finished.

I loved this hardware.  So I found similar hardware on Amazon.  It was so much cheaper than the stores and great quality too.  You won't see it until the next post however.

And it was really hard deciding what colors to paint/stain everything.  Since the bed and dresser are going to be white.  I thought I would go out on a limb and add a little color to the room. I love this color and thought I would go for it.
Sanded.  Primed. Sanded. Painted. Phew...lots of work.

lots of drawers

lots of help....cute help

Here is the dresser now. No front shots because it is still drying and in need of hardware.
Sanded, then glazed.  Love the glaze.  I wish you could see this in person.  So beautiful (due to the glaze).
A close up of the top of the dresser...again, I love the glaze.

And the nightstand painted the bold color...what do you think?  Wait until I get the hardware on it and put together....then we will really see how things turned out.  The glaze toned the color down a lot.

So...that is how far we have come so far.  I will post as we get closer.  We still need to paint the headboard, make the footboard and assemble. Then I will post before and after pictures...
